Haridwar literally translated the gateway of Heaven is considered to be one of the most sacred place to immerse the ashes of loved ones after death. Haridwar is regarded as one of the seven holiest places or Saptapuri by the Hindu scriptures.
It is also one of the destinations where the Kumbh Mela is held.Pilgrims from all over the world come to take a dip at the Holy Ganga which flows through Haridwar.Ritual of bathing on the banks of the Holy Ganga is believed to clean away all sins and pathway to attain Moksha or salvation.
Asti Visarjan or immersion of deceased person's ashes is considered to be the most sacred and pious if performed in Haridwar. Such a ritual is considered to be very pious and sacred. Death in Hinduism means only the demise of the physical body and these last rituals for the dearly departed are important as they help to free the soul from all worldly bondage.
When the ashes are immersed in the Ganga the soul achieves Moksha or union with the All Mighty.
