These four places or for that matter any pilgrim destination in India is full of hidden and captivating facts. Here are some of the most untold stories about Chardham.

Know The Unknown Verity Of Chardham:

  • The Aboriginal Locale of Lord Badri Temple: It is said that the current location of Badrivishal temple is not the original location of Lord Badri’s idol. Ancient scriptures and mythology states that Adi Shankaracharya found the idol from the River Alaknanda and kept it inside the Garud Cave originally. Hot springs known as ‘Tapt Kund” surrounded it and he built a small temple there. The King Of Garhwal took it to its current location years later and built a majestic temple.
  • The Tomb Of Adi Shankaracharya: The Kedarnath Dham is also the resting place of Adi Shankaracharya- who is responsible for reviving Hinduism in India. He left for the heavenly abode at a mere age of 32 after touring the entire country to educate people about Advaita by foot.
  • The Esoteric Origin Of Yamuna River: Champasar Glacier is the origin of River Yamuna and is at an approximate distance of about 1 kilometre from the Dham of Yamunotri. However, this route is completely obscure due to narrow and rocky roads. The primary attainable point is the temple which is the abode of Ma Yamuna. No one known to history was able to visit the Champasar Glacier and that source is still mysterious.
  • The Bhagirathi Shila: There is a rock edifice behind the temple which honours King Bhagirath. He came to her to fulfill his atonement and ask MAA Ganga to flow from her sacred monarchy so that his ancestors’ souls achieve salvation. This place, since then, is the Pind Daan spot for the deceased.
