GADKALIKA TEMPLE
Gadkalika Temple is located in Ujjain city of Madhya Pradesh. The ancient poet Kalidas Garh was a worshiper of Kalika Devi. Regarding Kalidas, it is believed that ever since he started worshiping in this temple, his brilliant personality started developing. Kalidas worshiped Mother Gadkalika and attained enlightenment. Legend has it that the great poet Kalidasa was originally illiterate, But by his great devotion towards Goddess Kalika he acquired unique literary skills. 'Shyamla Dandak' Mahakali Stotra written by Kalidas is a beautiful composition. The temple was renovated by King Harshavardhana in the 7th century. The temple has been rebuilt in modern times by the then Gwalior State. Due to its location near Garh village, this temple was named Garhkalika Temple. Popularly known as Ujjain Mahakali, this temple is one of the eighteen Shaktipeeths, where the upper lip of Goddess Sati had fallen. However, due to being situated in Harsiddhi area, its importance is similar to that of Shaktipeeth. Navratri is the main festival here which is celebrated with great enthusiasm and thousands of devotees come.
