History says, once Bhagwan Shiv Ji while carrying the body of Mata Sati, the Necklace (Har) of Mata Sati fell in Maihar and hence the name Maihar. A great number of devotees brings their children for commencing their education and studies. During the Navaratri festival days, it is believed Mata Sharadambika appears to her devotees as a Brahmin, Maheshwari, Gourami, Vaishnavi, Indrani, Chamundeeswari and Rajalakshmi.
