KAAL BHAIRAV TEMPLE, UJJIAN
The Kaal Bhairav temple is a Hindu temple located in the Ujjain city of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is believed that this temple is located in Ujjain, According to Skand Purana Kaal Bhairav temple has been located in Ujjain for more than 6000 years. It is dedicated to Kaal Bhairav (chief of eight Bhairavas) the guardian deity of Ujjain. Located on the banks of the Shipra River, it is one of the most active temples in the city, visited by thousands of devotees daily. The main attraction of temple here is, liquor is offered to main deity Kaal Bhairava with special mantra. Kaal Bhairav also accept the liquor as Prashad, its like a magic. Pujari of temple takes the saucer near the deity's lips, which have a slit. He tilts the plate a bit, and the liquor starts disappearing. A lot of people including Britisher tried to search for where the liquor went but it became a mystery for all. Then all have accepted that Kaal Bhairava himself drinks it. As per several facts associated with this temple, Lord Mahakal of Ujjain appointed Kaal Bhairav to protect the city at this place. Therefore, Kaal Bhairav is also called the Kotwal of the city.
