Located at a distance of 65 kms from Shirdi in the Ahmednagar district, the Shani Shingnapur Temple is dedicated to Lord Shaneshwar or Lord Shanidev. He is regarded as the personification of planet Saturn. The entire village around the Shani Shingnapur Temple has no doors at their residences. The people residing by the temple have a deep belief in the almighty Lord Shanidev and regard him as their sole protector. The village has not recorded theft or robbery till date. The idol of Lord Shanidev is placed inside the Shani Shingnapur Temple and is made up of a large black stone. Devotees are allowed to enter the temple premises after taking a bath.

Only males are permitted inside the temple. Prayers are offered by the devotees in traditional dhotis at the Shani Shingnapur Temple.In the village there has been many sightings of ghosts, spirits and various supernatural elements.

There is no liquor, gambling or non-vegetarian food here.All the people here are from the lineage of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. In the Gram Panchayat, there is never an election or panel. A single vote is final and the decision is universally accepted.

The Peepal trees in the village of Shingnapur have hanging roots like the Banyan tree. Every day, here, there is business done worth at least 1 lakh. Elderly people of this village observe fasting on Saturday and they start any important work of their homes on Saturday. Countless people come to offer oil to God Shani. On the occasions of Shani Amavashya and Shani Jayanti, over 10 lakh people come here. If anything of any devotee, like a watch, chain, golden ring or any other precious item is lost, they get it back immediately. Robbery rate is very low.

This is viewed as unlucky in conventional astrology. As per ‘Kaagol Shastra’, the distance of Shani from the earth is 9 crore miles. Its radius is about one billion and 82 crore and 60 lakh kilometers. And its gravitational force is 95 times higher than that of the earth. Planet Shani takes 19 years to complete one revolution around the Sun.
