Puri, better known as Jagannath Dham, is mentioned in many ancient scriptures of India as one of the most holy places of this country. Here is the temple of Lord Jagannatha, built in the 12th century, but the original structure was erected 2,000 years ago or even earlier. All dance schools, music, literature, architecture- the whole culture of Orissa revolves around the Jagannath Temple Darshan tour. There is a popular belief about this Temple that the devotee who will come to Puri to see Jagannath ji, his journey will be complete only if he will also visit this (Sakshi Gopal) temple. After visiting Jagannath Ji, devotees who have reached Puri from far off places also bow down in this temple and show their reverence to God. The devotees take a bath in a sandalwood lake built near the Temple before bowing down.
